Description
This collection consists of US military field equipment and various ephemera, primarily from the World War II and Cold War eras. The centerpiece is a 1944-dated M1910/M1943 style pick-mattock entrenching tool. The steel head is clearly stamped U.S. DIAMOND CAL 1944. The accompanying wooden handle is finished in olive drab paint. Also included is a matching tan canvas carrier, which is stamped on the interior V.C.C. 1944. The lot features an assortment of reproduction photographs printed on Kodak Professional Paper. Notable subjects include Tuskegee Airmen posed with training and combat aircraft. One group photo from Moton Field, Alabama, dated March 11, 1945, features inscriptions and a facsimile signature for Lt. John D. Roach. Other portraits include an individual African American USAAF officer and a female Marine in service uniform. The collection further includes a large, silver-tone aluminum pitcher with a hinged lid and handle, as well as a softbound technical booklet titled USAF Newspicture Guide (AFP 190-3-1 / NAVWEPS 10-1-765), dated November 1, 1960. Included as associated personal ephemera are several freight waybills and a mailing envelope from The Ann Arbor Railroad System dated October 1978.
