July Military Auction
Lot 25127:
Description
This United States Army Parachutist Badge, frequently referred to as jump wings, dates from the World War II to Korean War era. The insignia is constructed of sterling silver and displays the standard design of an open parachute canopy flanked by outstretched wings. This example features three combat jump devices in the form of small bronze-colored stars. The stars are individually attached to the badge, with one centered on the parachute canopy and one located on each wing. This configuration signifies that the original recipient participated in three combat parachute jumps. The reverse of the badge is equipped with a horizontal pin-back fastener and a rolling lock safety catch. The reverse of the parachute canopy is stamped with the word STERLING. An additional manufacturer mark is present on the reverse of the left wing but is not clearly legible for definitive identification.
