Description
This group consists of several United States military service medals representing the Army and Marine Corps from the early to mid-20th century. The collection includes one Army of Occupation of Germany Medal and three United States Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals.
The Army of Occupation of Germany Medal is a bronze award featuring the profile of General John J. Pershing on the obverse, accompanied by the inscription General John J. Pershing and the dates 1918 and 1923 within a laurel wreath. The reverse depicts an eagle with outspread wings perched upon a castle, inscribed U.S. Army of Occupation of Germany. The medal is suspended from a ribbon with a black center flanked by white, red, and blue stripes and includes a pin-back suspension.
The three United States Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals are struck in bronze and feature an obverse depicting a Marine manning a naval gun with a banner reading Semper Fidelis and the circular text United States Marine Corps. The reverse of each features a circular rim with the words Fidelity, Zeal, and Obedience surrounding a blank center intended for recipient engraving. Each medal is suspended from a bronze rifle-shaped bar below a dark red ribbon with a centered blue vertical stripe. The top of the ribbons feature a rectangular brooch bar inscribed U.S. Marine Corps. One example is preserved in a plastic sleeve with a card backing.
