Description
This collection includes United States military service awards and associated insignia from the early 20th century. The grouping features World War I Victory Medals struck in bronze, featuring the winged figure of Victory on the obverse. One Victory Medal is fitted with four bronze battle clasps inscribed Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector. Another Victory Medal is fitted with four bronze battle clasps inscribed Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector. The reverse of these medals displays the central fasces and shield design surrounded by the names of the Allied nations and the inscription The Great War For Civilization. A Mexican Border Service Medal is also included, featuring a sheathed sword and the inscription For Service on the Mexican Border on the obverse, with a reverse design of the American eagle over crossed rifles. A two-place ribbon bar accompanies the medals, representing both the World War I Victory and Mexican Border Service awards. The reverse of the ribbon bar contains handwritten ink markings that appear to read PI. MIHIEL.
