Description

This is a World War I era United States Army officer’s service cap, identified by its construction as an M1912 pattern. The cap is made from olive drab wool fabric and features a prominent ribbed mohair band around the base of the crown. It is fitted with a blackened bronze-finish metal officer’s cap insignia depicting the Great Seal of the United States, secured by a matching pair of blackened side buttons. An adjustable brown leather chinstrap is positioned above the brown leather visor, which features a finished edge and a green-colored fabric underside. The interior is lined with yellow satin fabric. A rectangular ink stamp on the lining reads WESTERN over NO. 26, likely indicating its former use in a theatrical or film studio inventory. The name T. Parson is handwritten in black ink on the lining, along with the number 26. A faint, partial stamp reading PROPERTY OF is visible near the sweatband area.
