July Military Auction
Lot 24934:
Description
A pair of matching United States Air Force embroidered unit insignia for the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS). During the Vietnam War, the 469th TFS operated as part of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing based at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, flying F-105 Thunderchiefs and later F-4E Phantom IIs. Each patch features the squadron mascot, a charging black bull with a red eye, centered on a green circular field. Two red lightning bolts emanate from beneath the bull. An arched white tab at the top of the circle is embroidered with the text 469TH TFS in black thread. The reverse of the patches displays the irregular, loose thread work characteristic of theater-made or in-country production by local shops in Thailand or South Vietnam during the conflict.
