Burns March Gallery Auction
Lot 9537:
Description
This collection features a copy of Charles Harper’s Birds & Words, published by The Frame House Gallery, Louisville, Kentucky, in 1974. The volume is hand-signed by the artist on the title page and contains numerous color illustrations of Harper’s minimalist wildlife serigraphs. The lot includes an assortment of decorative bird-themed items, notably two hand-painted wooden bird carvings mounted on natural driftwood bases. One carving depicts an owl with black and white striped plumage and glass-style eyes, while the other depicts a woodpecker. The underside of the woodpecker base bears the handwritten inscriptions Hairy and Bell XII/LV. Also included is a stylized, dark-stained wood carving of a bird in flight with incised wing details and a small metal hanging loop on the reverse. Completing the group are several large, striped feathers.
