Description

World War Two U.S. Navy VF-83 squadron patch. The patch is silkscreen on canvas.  Measures 5.5″ in diameter. Established as Fighter Squadron Eighty Three (VF-83) on May 1, 1944. The insignia was approved by the Office of Chief of Naval Operations – CNO on August 10, 1944. VF-83 was deployed on the USS Essex and flew the Grumman F6F-5/5N/5F.   The squadron participated in raids on Kyushu, supported the invasion of Okinawa, the discovery and sinking of the Japanese battleship Yamato and other air strikes against the Japanese home islands.   Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
