Description
Pre World War One to WWI British Royal Navy officer’s bicorn hat. The original bright blue silk lining bears the maker’s inscription “J. Gieve and Sons Portsmouth & Devenport.” This particular manufacturer’s mark was used from 1904 – 1916. The beaver fur hat body, captain’s rank bullion, and brocade trim are in complete and excellent condition. The bullion is missing from the front and back (fore and aft) points. The sweatband is complete but the stitching is loose/missing in places. Measures 17″ long x 6.5″ tall x 5.5″ wide. From the mid 19th century Gieves became the preferred supplier to officers of the Royal Navy. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
