Description
Civil War CDV of Lieutenant John A. Griffin of the 90th Pennsylvania Infantry. This image is identified on the reverse in period pencil, “Lieut John A Griffin Co E. Wounded at Fredericksburg”. The CDV has a Brady backmark. Bust view. Griffin mustered into Company H on 9/7/1861. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant, 1st Lieutenant on 1/1/1863, and Captain on 5/26/1864. The Pennsylvania monument at Gettysburg shows that Griffin was present at the battle of Gettysburg. The image has been trimmed and measures 3.625″ x 2.375″ The 90th Pennsylvania Infantry was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Assigned to the 1st Army Corps, the regiment fought participated in the Battles of 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Fitzhugh Crossing, Gettysburg, Rappahannock Station, and Mine Run. During the winter of 1864 the 90th was assigned to the 2nd Division of the 5th Army Corps. They fought at the Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spotsylvania Court House, Petersburg, and Weldon Railroad. The members who did not re-enlist mustered out on November 26, 1864. During its term of service the 90th Pennsylvania Volunteers has 103 men killed or mortally wounded.
