Description
This collection of vintage and antique pictorial buttons features various avian and insect motifs. The items are mounted on a grid-lined white display card with handwritten labels identifying specific subjects including Dove on Nest, Owl Head, Home Seeker, Cock Pheasant, Snail on Leaf, Parrot, Swallow, Crane, and Butterfly. The buttons are constructed from several materials including embossed and cast metals in gold and silver tones, molded iridescent and black glass, and mother-of-pearl. The designs reflect decorative manufacturing styles from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. One notable large metal button features a detailed Home Seeker scene, while others show molded glass birds and insects.
