Description
This collection consists of an assortment of vintage and antique buttons presented on two themed display cards titled LIGHTHOUSES and LEAVES. These are buttons that represent a range of materials including molded and filigree metal in brass and silver tones, carved glass in various colors, enameled details, celluloid, and examples featuring inset rhinestones or glass cabochons. A significant piece in the LEAVES group is a large, ornate brass-tone button with green glass accents signed M. GAVMOND. The LIGHTHOUSES section features buttons in various media such as metal, wood, and ceramic, including one small piece with a handwritten note identifying it as walrus ivory signed by the artist. The collection displays multiple artistic techniques including carving, molding, and filigree work.
