Description
A collection of antique and vintage metal livery buttons featuring various heraldic and animal motifs. The buttons are constructed from various metals with silver-toned, gilt-brass, and bronze-toned finishes. Many examples feature a convex or domed profile. Decorative motifs include a rooster, squirrel, dog, lion, peacock, swan, bull, fox, deer, bird, sheep, goat, and beaver. Visible markings and annotations identify makers including Firman and Sons of Strand, London; W. Dowler of Birmingham; Simpson and Sons of 63 South Audley Street; Bowler and Sons Ltd of Birmingham; Charles Jennens of London; Thos. J. Dunn of New York; and Arnfeld and Sons.
Individual buttons range from approximately 0.5 inches to 1.25 inches in diameter. Pick up is Friday, March 13 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
